The god of my Bardolatry is first and foremost Shakespeare, especially the great Tragedies, Lear, Macbeth, Othello, and Hamlet. I’ve seen (last count) twenty stage, screen, and TV productions of Hamlet, and if I haven’t seen as many productions of the other plays, it’s only for lack of opportunity.
But I love modern playwrights as well, particularly Arthur Miller and Terence Rattigan. (The Crucible is my favorite twentieth century play.) After seeing the world premiere of Sweat four times at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, I’m now on a mission to see every Lynn Nottage play I possibly can.
