Zoetrope quarter-finalists!

Well, now, this is very gratifying for a couple of newbie screenwriters.

John (my son) and I spent some time last summer turning my short story Yardsticks, which won the 1998 Kay Snow award and was published in Image in 2003, into a screenplay. We entered it in Francis Ford Coppola’s annual Zoetrope screenwriting contest, and by cracky if we didn’t place in the quarters—top 5% out of 2400 entries!

Very encouraging, especially seeing as how John wants to be a filmmaker, and we’re both eager to work on a new screeplay idea we’ve chatted about, after John graduates from the U of O in June.
